Vacations Palm Springs

November 21st, 2013 ernie Posted in Palm Springs | No Comments »

Vacations Palm SpringsVacations Palm Springs.  In our last post we wrote about Palm Springs vacations. There are lots of things that you can do in Palm Springs. In this post about vacations Palm Springs we plan to talk about hiking in and around Palm Springs. This is a great vacation activity that everyone can enjoy. Consequently youngsters as well as seniors who love the outdoors can go hiking on short trips as well as long hikes.

One of the conditions of hiking in any location is always to be prepared. In the Palm Springs area the temperatures are usually very hot. The air is very dry which enables dehydration to set in very quickly. Consequently always make sure you take lots of water with you to prevent dehydration. Wear a hat at all times, take lots of sunscreen and even pack a small lunch or snack to take with you. In addition make sure that someone knows where you’re going and when you expect to return. But do not deviate from the planned trip in case something happens and people need to find you.

Vacations Palm Springs – Hiking

There is a book called Palm Springs hikers guide. Which is strongly recommended for anyone who wants to do serious hiking in Palm Springs. In addition it provides pictures, directions, and ratings for all of the hiking trails that are available in Palm Springs and the Valley.

One area to go hiking is at the Palm Springs Tram. You can go up the mountains on the tram for the day and there are over 54 miles of hiking available at the top. But hikers should always be prepared when you go hiking in this area. Always take a compass with you as well as a knapsack with lots of water.

There are trails in all of the surrounding mountains that are surrounding the Palm Springs Valley. These trails range from easy to medium too difficult and all are rated in the Palm Springs Hikers guide. One trail, called the museum trail, is located just behind the museum parking lot. It goes straight up the mountain. However this trail would be considered medium to difficult for many people. Consequently with all of the switchbacks and the aggressive elevation that is included on this trip, it can be challenging.

There are trails in the middle of the desert just at the end of Ramon Road. Which are easy trails on flat ground to take you to several oasis’ and out into the desert. These are just a sample of some of the many trails that people can hike in the Palm Springs area. We hope you enjoy hiking.

Stockmarket bubble – 2013

November 18th, 2013 ernie Posted in Stock Markets | No Comments »

Stoc kmarket bubbleWe recently listened to a stock market financial analyst from New York talk about whether the bull market of 2013 will continue or whether we will have a 4% correction or higher in the coming year.  Is there a stock market bubble now? The short answer to the question put to the financial analyst, about whether there would be Stock market correction of at least 4% was that he did not know.

It took him about five minutes to answer the question. He analyzed and discussed all the possible issues that could cause stock market correction. However like a politician he does not answer the question. With so many assumptions and guesses that it is really difficult to know what he was really saying. Or to tell whether he thinks there will be a stock market bubble correction in the near future.

Stock market bubble

As we write this particular post, there are no new wars starting up. Which could affect the markets, there are no major storms or hurricanes that are impacting major market areas or oil platforms, the economies of the world seem to be moving along slowly with no major change but all on the uptick and there does not appear to be anything in particular that could cause a market correction to begin to happen.

The upshot of his discussion was that there will be a market correction of at least 4% sometime in the future, he just did not know when. It was also impossible to time-the-market so if you’re concerned about locking in your profits at this point in time it is something that you might want to think about however you could be giving up future profits based on the market continuing to climb. This last statement is typical of the kind of advice and discussion this particular financial analyst provided.

It is tough to know what to do as an investor, however if you have a long-term strategy in place, it is best to stick to that strategy and not try to time market uptick’s and market downtiks. Focus on income, High-quality stocks with dividends, bons with excellent interest income and mutual funds with low and MERs.

Rob Ford In Over His Head

November 15th, 2013 ernie Posted in Canada | No Comments »

What a train wreck Rob Ford is and it seems to get worse every day. Hopefully this sad story will end soon and hopefully he will get some help. Unfortunately his cancer has returned and he passed away. The rest of this article was written prior to his leaving politics to deal with his health issues.  It appears to me that this guy is in over his head in terms of his job and his problems. He does not know how to handle a situation that is getting steadily worse.

Rob Ford – Cannot Deal with Politicians

A friend of mind was contemplating running for office a few years ago. He called me to ask for my help, which I agreed to and he had to go to a few nominating meetings. He said he would get back to me in a few weeks. Well my friend is a pretty straight shooter. He does not have the gift that we seem to think that our politicians should have of being able to say a lot without actually saying anything.

The short story is that he called back in a few weeks. He told me that there was no way he could lie and promise things that there were impossible to deliver. He had not chance of being nominated, because many people will vote for promises they hope will happen and have literally no chance of ever being fulfilled.

Apparently Rob Ford has done some good things for Toronto. But he has lost his ability to govern and has to go. The train is already careening down the tracks and about to go off the rails!!!

A Bracelet that Cools or Heats your Body

November 7th, 2013 ernie Posted in Future Trends | No Comments »

Bracelet that Cools or Heats your BodyA team at MIT has come up with a new device that could revolutionize the clothing industry and also heating in buildings and even outdoors. The new product called Wristify is an invention by MIT students. It is a bracelet that cools or heats your body.

The device is powered by a lithium battery. It is attached to the wrist of the person. By heating it by .1° the entire body can be warmed up and kept at a more pleasant temperature. This device would be ideal for conditions out of doors, in buildings where you want to lower the temperature and save energy. In addition for people who are suffering from cold temperatures even when other people are quite comfortable. Consequently this device could revolutionize the clothing industry.

Bracelet that Cools or Heats your Body – Clothing

There already exists clothing that you can wear to keep you warm. It could be used by people riding on motorcycles for example in the wintertime. Just plug the cable attached to your jacket into your motorcycle connection. It keeps you warm while you’re riding your motorcycle.

The device we’re talking about is quite different. It rests against the skin. It keeps your body warm by raising the temperature of your blood as it circulates through your system.

Right now it’s still in the prototype stage. We are looking forward to hearing more from the MIT team that developed this unique device. For more posts about future trends, click here.

CPAP Medical Supplies

November 7th, 2013 ernie Posted in CPAP Supplies | No Comments »

CPAP Medical SuppliesWhen should you replace your CPAP equipment? That is the question that I am asking myself. My machine, hoses and mask are nearing the one year mark. I really cannot see anything wrong with mine and the mask etc does not smell or anything like that. The hose is not cracked and there are no signs that it is nearing the time when it should be replaced. Yet the technician that set me up with a CPAP machine and mask suggested that I should probably replace all of the CPAP medical supplies except for the machine itself sometime after the first six months. So far I am not really planning to replace anything, but I am wondering why such a difference in my usage vs. what the technician suggested.

Clean Your CPAP Medical supplies

I really believe the difference is that I routinely clean my nasal pillow mask and water tank every day. I always use fresh water, the distilled type and I clean these items first thing in the morning and then leave them out to dry properly.  Once a week I wash everything, the mask, the hoses and the straps that hold it in place. So far they look like new and they do not smell which is by far the most important part!

CPAP mask – this element can take various forms. I use a nasal pillow CPAP mask, while a friend uses a full face mask. It is really a personal preference regarding which one you use and which one is the most comfortable. Wash it every day with warm water and mild soap to keep it fresh and clean.

Hoses – need to remain flexible and not be allowed to become brittle. Once they do they will crack and allow air to escape. Wash them at least once per week in warm soapy water as well by soaking them for at least an hour and then rinse them off.

Filters – the filter which is actually a small sponge should also be washed weekly. If you very concerned about pollen and dust due to allergies, there are allergen filters which can be installed over the sponge filter which will keep even more particles out of the airway.

CPAP Machine

This is the main device that you pay all of the money for. This CPAP medical device is the most expensive part and should be taken care of with the utmost care. Keep it clean and free of dust and also empty and rinse the water reservoir on a daily basis. Allow it to dry before refilling to remove any possibility of contamination by dust particles.

CPAP medical supplies can be purchased online, however I prefer to get mine at the local store where I originally received by device in the first place. I find they provide great consultation services and will address all of my questions. Their reward for this free service is my loyalty and willingness to purchase this medical supply device from them.

Maine Rafting Guides

November 7th, 2013 ernie Posted in Maine | No Comments »

Maine Rafting GuidesMaine rafting guides are just like guides all over the USA and Canada in fact the world. They are trained professionals and doing their job to keep you safe as well as provide you an entertaining white water rafting trip. Their job is to make sure that you understand all of the safety precautions to take before you begin your trip. During the trip their job is to guide you down the river, keep you safe, tell you when to paddle, and went to not paddle, and steer the raft around the huge boulders and rapids.

Maine Rafting Guides – Follow directions

It is very important to follow the directions of your Maine rafting guides. They’re the ones who know the river, and all of the things that could cause their customers a problem. For example the water in the river is extremely cold most times of the year. If they tell you to stay out of the water to avoid hypothermia then do so. Too many people have not followed their guides instructions and have drowned as a result of having hypothermia while in the water.

On overnight trips people like to party and sometimes they have too much to drink. This is when it is very important to follow what your guy is telling you. Failure to do so can cause your death or some of your friends deaths. A strong guide will evict you from the rafting trip and arrange for someone to come and get you and take you home to the main base.

Stick to skill level

All rivers that have white water rafting trips on them are rated from 1 to 5. One being the easiest to navigate and suitable for most families and children, while five is extremely difficult and only for the experts who can swim quite strongly and have rafted many times down the river. These are the people who should only take that kind of trip. Choose your rafting trip according to the skill level that you have as well as your strength in swimming. Avoid going on white water rafting trips that require a high skill level in terms of being able to survive in the water and reach the shore. If you are not a strong swimmer, stick to the lower rated rafting trips to make sure that you are safe and have an enjoyable white water rafting trip.

Maine Rafting Guides – Practice safety

Your rafting guide is interested in providing you a great trip, a fun trip, one that is enjoyable by everyone however they also need you to follow all of the proper safety instructions that they will provide you. The principal one that you must always follow is to wear your life jacket at all times while in the raft and on the river. In addition you should follow and must follow all of the rafting guides instructions to ensure that you are safe and the members of your raft crew are also safe.

What do you look for in a guide

Most people look for white water rafting guides that will provide them with a lot of fun. No one really wants to have a boring guy who barely talks. Or does not provide any kind of information about the surrounding vegetation and rock formations. At the same time customers need to know that the they have an experienced white water rafting guide.

They need to know that this guy can get them down the river safely. Questions to ask are how many times has this guy traveled this river with a raft full of people. How many times has this guide had to have people rescued. How many years of experience providing Whitewater rafting do these guys have. These are just common sense things that you should always check into before you embark on your white water rafting trip in the state of Maine.

Marks Restaurant Bucerias

November 7th, 2013 ernie Posted in Puerto Vallarta | No Comments »

Marks Restaurant BuceriasIf you ever have a chance to go to Marks restaurant Bucerias Mexico, do not even think twice about it, spend an evening dining at this great restaurant. It is a nice spot with really great food and not badly priced as well. It is on a quiet little street about a block off the beach and one of the nicest restaurants in the area. We spent an evening at this restaurant with some friends who thoroughly enjoyed the evening with us. Great food, great atmosphere, and in the spring great weather as well.

These two pictures really show what a nice place it is and the food is also great as well.

Bucerias is a small Mexican town on Banderas Bay on the Pacific coast side of Mexico. There are beautiful beaches, great restaurants in this small rustic town.  It is growing fast so there is more and more a mix of old-world Mexico with new world construction and demands from tourists from all areas of the world.

Beaches

The beaches are wonderful, long and sandy. You can wade well out into the water that is clear and warm. You will not find a lot of surf in this particular area of the coast. However, for those who want to enjoy the sun, sand, and water it is one of the more idyllic places to spend your time.

Marks Restaurant Bucerias

Marks Restaurant BuceriasMarks restaurant is a great place to spend an evening with your favorite person. Fine dining in a tropical setting, life cannot get much better than this!

We were there on a warm tropical evening and thoroughly enjoyed the evening dining under the stars in Bucerias Mexico.

Vacation Packages Puerto Vallarta

October 21st, 2013 ernie Posted in Puerto Vallarta | No Comments »

Vacation Packages Puerto VallartaThere are many vacation packages associated with Puerto Vallarta to various hotels in the area. These are usually the resort hotels that offer a combination of hotel plus airfare with all inclusive meals thrown in. There are several nice hotels that are located right on the beach along the coast. Some are inside the city of Puerto Vallarta. While others are on the outskirts or even in other smaller towns not too far from the airport.

Vacation Packages Puerto Vallarta

If you only have a week to spend, and you want to be pampered, not worry about finding groceries etc, then an all inclusive resort is probably the place to go. They cater to everything and your meals and often drinks are also included. The only thing you have to think about each day is what you plan to do that day and which restaurant in the complex you plan to eat in.

Longer Term Vacation

On the other hand, if you have a month to spend or longer, an all inclusive can be pretty expensive and actually a little boring. If you have paid for the all inclusive, you may feel that in order to get your money’s worth, you must spend all of your time there and eat at the restaurants etc. for the writer this would get a little boring and we would just have to get out and explore, go to other restaurants’, beaches etc.

For us staying in a condo on the beach is the best approach when we are staying for any period longer than a week. Sure you have to find grocery stores for some meals and you have to make your own meals etc, but this is part of really getting to know the city you are in. Besides you can still go out and try different restaurants, go exploring, spend time at the beach and even at the pool which most condos have.

We tend to eat breakfast at home and then head out to whatever we plan to do that day and maybe have lunch or supper or both out somewhere at one of the local Mexican restaurants in Puerto Vallarta. This is how we like to spend our vacation in Puerto Vallarta.

What is there to do in Puerto Vallarta

There are lots of activities that tourists can consider when vacationing in Puerto Vallarta. There are great beaches, there are great restaurants, and there is great shopping. For those people who are more adventurous, there are fishing trips, whale watching on Banderas Bay, and trips to other villages around the bay, each with their own charm and attractions.

There are trips into the jungle , including zip lining, boat rides, donkey riding and trips to tequila factories out in the jungle. You can just chill out on the beach under a palapa with an ice cold beer to enjoy and watch the para-sailing enthusiasts.

There are also lots of pubs on or near the malecon which is a walkway that runs along the water for several miles in downtown Puerto Vallarta. One place we really enjoyed is the third floor at Cheeky Monkies sitting along the rail watching the boats and people along the malecon. This is the best place in the city to watch the sunset at night!

Hope you enjoy your vacation in Puerto Vallarta, there are lots to do and it is a safe city to visit. Just be careful the same way you would in all other cities in North America.

Pool Palm Springs

October 21st, 2013 ernie Posted in Palm Springs | No Comments »

Pool Palm SpringsIf you are looking for a pool Palm Springs, there are many private pools in Palm Springs. In fact almost every home in the Palm Springs area will have its own pool in the backyard. There are also a number of public pools that people who live in apartments and townhouses can go to. There are also a lot of townhouse complexes that also have common pools for the complex.

Almost every hotel and motel will have a pool for their guests to swim in while they are staying at their premises. Some of the larger hotels will have large pool areas. With pool decks and bars located either in the pool for quite close to the pool. There will be cabanas that people can sit under to get out of the sun or lots of palm trees to provide shade. These resorts are truly one of the best places to spend your time at one of the pools in Palm Springs.

Pool Palm Springs – Public Pools

There are also several public pool areas that people can go swimming at, with water slides and areas to spend the time sunbathing and just have a great time. Most of these can be found around town in Cathedral city or Rancho Mirage. They’re not far from Palm Springs since all the cities and run together and are close to each other.

The public pools are not open in the winter time. Although many people vacationing in Palm Springs would probably use them. The weather is extremely nice and warm most of the time. The water needs to be heated since it can become quite cool during the evenings.

White Water in Maine

October 21st, 2013 ernie Posted in Maine | No Comments »

White Water in MaineThere are a number of rivers in Main that various tour companies provide white water rafting trips on. These include the Kennebec River, the Penobscot river and the Dead River. There are also a number of outfitters who have banded together to create a Maine Rafting association. These include Three Rivers, Moxie, Magic Falls, Windfall Rafting and North Country Rivers. There may be other rafting companies that are operating in the state of Maine. However these companies have taken the sport serious enough to create a set of rules and regulations that they jointly follow. Effects of Not Getting Enough Sleep

October 21st, 2013 ernie Posted in Sleep | 1 Comment »

Effects of Not Getting Enough SleepThe effects of not getting enough sleep can be quite dramatic and very dangerous. For example when you do not get enough sleep the tendency is to drift off to sleep while driving your car which can cause accidents. We  have read many reports about people falling asleep at the wheel and the car end up rolling over in the ditch. Also you cannot concentrate as well, you cannot remember names, or numbers and it’s very difficult to solve problems and do high school homework. The more sleep deprived you become the more difficulty you will have with all of these functions.

Routine Loss of Sleep

Many people routinely do not get enough sleep at night. They tend to stay up later, and then get up for work or go to school at the regular time. They end up being sleep deprived which can cause many physical problems, memory problems, and generally make it dangerous to drive a car. It can also make them have less patience for their friends and family causing  out bursts and arguments. It is extremely important for the average person to get at least eight hours of sleep, and they say that teenagers should have at least an average of nine hours of sleep every night.

While it may be okay to burn the midnight hours studying or working late to complete a project, regular loss of sleep will cause significant issues long-term. In fact loss of sleep over even a short time can cause loss of concentration and you risk not impressing your boss or losing a promotion. Memory starts to become compromised, concentration is difficult and you may even fall asleep at inappropriate times.

Effects of Not Getting Enough Sleep

Lack of sleep can cause people to have difficulty in concentrating. Whether it is at meetings, driving a car, or operating machinery the ability to concentrate is greatly diminished when people are sleep deprived. This can be very dangerous for those people who were having trouble staying awake. One friend of ours would fall asleep at the wheel of his car at a stoplight while he was waiting for it to turn from red to green. Can you imagine being in his car when he is driving. I don’t think so. His wife would not let him drive alone and would have to wake him up when the light turned green. He had a severe sleeping problem, however even a moderate sleeping problem can cause serious issues for many people. Fortunately he was able to rectify his sleeping issue and now routinely gets a good nights sleep.

Regular Routine of Sleep

Try to go to bed at the same time every night. Also do not watch violent programs on TV or any action oriented programs or read any exciting books. Do not use stimulants of any kind and try to get into a routine. A quiet routine in the evening will help you go to sleep at a regular time. If you are overtired try to get an extra nap during the day at lunchtime or after work. This sounds incredibly boring. But getting enough sleep so that you can function well during the day in a safe manner is very important. Read your books or watch your programs that tend to wake you up or keep you up early in the day to avoid loss of sleep and jeopardizing your daily schedule.

Vacation Puerto Vallarta

October 7th, 2013 ernie Posted in Puerto Vallarta | No Comments »

Vacation Puerto VallartaWe spent two great months on our vacation in Puerto Vallarta and enjoyed almost every minute of it. My wife and I consider ourselves to be pretty adventurous . We were willing to try many things, although we did not stay out at the bars very late We always were careful about our surroundings and the people around us. That is the only thing that we would caution anyone planning to go to PV. Just like any other city that you visit as a tourist, always be aware of your surroundings. Try to not look like a tourist and dress down to avoid attracting attention. Give the impression that you know where you are going even if you do not.

Bus System

They have an excellent although antiquated bus system. The buses go almost everywhere within PV as well as to many of the other villages that are on the bay and a few miles from Puerto Vallarta. They do not cost much and only take cash, so always be prepared with cash to pay the driver. The buses are antiquated in that they have metal seats, they shake, they rattle and they are uncomfortable, but they are running from early in the morning until about 10pm at night. After 10pm, you need to be prepared to take a taxi wherever you are going.

Vacation Puerto Vallarta-  Beaches in Pureto Vallarta

The beaches are wonderful. Soft sand, no stones and lots of palapas to get under and relax. There are many beach bars that provide both food and beers for very reasonable prices and tourists can sit back and enjoy the surroundings, go for a swim and dry off in the sun. the only negative is that there is a constant flow of Mexicans selling various goods which they have made or purchased somewhere. They will come right up to you and you constantly have to politely decline. You get used to after a while

They have several Starbucks coffee shops in town so if you want a good cup of coffee then this is the place to go. We know it is not Mexican, but sometimes you just need to have a good cup of coffee that you can trust.

Vacation Puerto Vallarta – Restaurants in PV

There are many restaurants that cater to every price as well as every type of food. We tried a lot of Spanish restaurants and really enjoyed them all. Some will automatically place a bottle of tequila on your table that is included with your meal. There may only be four or five shots in it, but that is just fine. At one restaurant we ordered beer and were served tequila chasers with it. Many restaurants will sell a beer for a dollar which is very inexpensive by Canadian and US standards.

There are lots of excursions to go on. From trips out on the ocean to go fishing and do some whale watching to zip lining in the jungle they have it all. We went zip lining which included donkey riding and a trip to a tequila factory after the trip was over. A great way to spend the day. Book with a reputable firm and you will be safe as well as enjoy yourself.

Marina Area of PV

We lived in the marina area of Puerto Vallarta and enjoy the location very much. Far enough from downtown to be quiet, close enough by bus to be comfortable and close to the actual marina to enjoy the bars and a few restaurants. We stayed at the Portofino in the marina which is a private condo with a large pool area and a beach right in front. Very safe as far as we could tell and a great place to stay. Just make sure that the unit you book is clean. Some are not very clean and will need a thorough cleaning when you move in.

Palm Springs Pool

October 7th, 2013 ernie Posted in Palm Springs | No Comments »

Palm Springs PoolPalm Springs is one of the few places where you will get the use of your Palm Springs pool almost 365 days a year. In the winter time you will have to heat your pool since the evenings can be very cold down around 50°F. In the summertime the temperature will go up to sometimes as much as 120°, only cooling off to about 90° at night. that’s pretty warm and your pool temperature will be very pleasant.

Of course the best pools in Palm Springs are those that are heated in the wintertime. Most people will get their pool and keep it at 83°F all Winter long. Homeowners will have to heat their pool from about October until the end of March if they want to use it during those time frames. After that the sun and the air temperature are hot enough to keep your pool warm during the day without it cooling off too much at night. You can swim from the end of March until late September without having to heat your pool. Most people use heaters of some type and do not bother with solar blankets.

Palm Springs Pool – Temperatures

In the summertime when the air temperature is 120°F, many pools are up around 90 to 95°F. It is almost too hot to actually go swimming since you never get that refreshing feeling from being in the water. It is just too warm and many people will just stay inside in the air conditioning during the day. At night when it cools off of it is very comfortable to go swimming in the pool in Palm Springs.

Tourists and permenant dwellers will be out during the evenings to enjoy the warm summer nights. Swimming is fun without the hot sun beating down on you all of the time. Remember to always keep your body well hydrated.Save

Maine Rafting Adventure

October 7th, 2013 ernie Posted in Maine | No Comments »

Maine Rafting AdventureEvery year thousands of people will go on a Maine rafting adventure with their families, spouses or colleagues. They will have a thoroughly great time. The web sites promise great fun, great service and safe adventure for those rafting enthusiasts. We wondered about what one should look for when they are considering a rafting adventure. What specifics that should be compared when considering one rafting company over another. Check out the rest of this page for a few ideas about what to consider when you are booking a rafting trip.

Price

This is usually the first thing that comes to mind. The price must be  within the budget of whoever is picking up the tab. Some trips are more expensive than others due to the length of the trip, the services provided or just plain competition.

Services

This is always the other side of the coin when it comes to comparing one company over another. Price for a Maine rafting adventure is one thing, but then you must also compare the services that are also offered. Will you be provided with all of the equipment needed? What about meals, particularly on day long adventures or overnight?  Do they provide sleeping gear including tents etc. You probably want to bring your own sleeping bag and of course extra clothing. Transportation to the start point and back to wherever you car is parked is another consideration. What are the extra costs? Do you pay for the memory stick full of pictures or are they part of the package

There are other things that consumers considering a Maine Rafting Adventure should give some thought to.

Other Considerations

What is the safety record of the tour company? You may not be able to find out details unless they are really glaring, but it is worth checking. Look for reviews written by other guests. If you can find positive reviews on other non company web sites, then you can be pretty sure these are legit. Most web site managers must pre-approve any comments on a web site so if your checking on the rafting company’s web site, the comments may all be positive since most will filter out the negative ones.

You  may want to inquire how long the company has been in business and how experienced the rafting guides are. Customers should be confident about their guide and count on them providing a safe exhilarating ride.

If this is your first time rafting or your families, you probably should enquire about the river and the severity of the rapids. All rapids are rated and some are just not suitable for first timers, children or elderly people. Your guide can discuss these issues with you and perhaps recommend a trip that is more suited to your situation.

Many people go on Maine rafting adventure tours every year and have an absolutely great time. By asking a few questions and understanding the expectations, you increase your chances of having a great day out on the river enjoying the rapids as well as the scenery and the company of the other participants.

Teenagers Not Getting Enough Sleep

October 7th, 2013 ernie Posted in Sleep | No Comments »

Teenagers Not Getting Enough SleepTeenagers Not Getting Enough Sleep is a pretty typical situation as shown in this picture. Most of us simply are not getting enough sleep and the reasons for this are as varied as there are individuals. There are all kinds of side effects to being tired and it affects people in many different ways, however, in this post, we decided to focus in on teenagers and what the impacts are to them when they are overtired to sustain them.

Most teens are extremely busy and will push the sleep hours to the minimum. Many people might find this a surprise since they are always waking their teens up to get them going to school or to work or to simply get them up for the day. The fact of the matter is that they never want to go to sleep since they are too busy talking or texting with their friends over the phone or corresponding or gaming on their computers. Some are in fact working late as well and then have to get up early for school which just makes the problem that much worse.

What Happens to Teenagers

Whether you are a teen or an adult if you do not get enough rest, it affects your ability to listen, concentrate and remember. It affects your ability to solve problems or do homework. Some teens who are prone to pimples may have worse outbreaks of them. Being overtired can also lead to aggressive behavior in some and even inappropriate behavior such as impatience or yelling at friends and family. Tired people eat to gain energy which can also lead to weight gain. Older teens may use more caffeine, alcohol or nicotine as a means to stay awake and tiredness can also contribute to illness. Drowsiness can occur as well behind the wheel which leads to accidents.

Some Facts About Lack of Sleep

Rest is just as important to your well being as the air you breathe or the water you drink. Most people need at least 8 hours of rest on average while teens need as much as 9 and one-half hours on average every night. Most teens will not get enough sleep due to homework, talking on the phone and hanging out with friends. Some teens who do not get enough sleep can also suffer from sleep problems such as narcolepsy, insomnia, restless legs and even sleep apnea.

Your ability to concentrate to listen and solve problems is severely compromised. Forgetting common things like well-known telephone numbers, names and numbers etc are common. Teens can be more prone to pimples. Lack of sleep can also make people have less patience, more aggressive even yelling at friends and parents. Many people will also eat unhealthy sweets and foods to gain energy and gain weight instead. Lack of sleep can contribute to accidents, illness or poor driving.

Many of these items are common to teens and adults, however because teens need more rest as a rule some of the problems can be even greater for them than adults.

How to Deal With Lack of Sleep

Teenagers Not Getting Enough Sleep can affect everyone around them as well. Everyone has a different way to deal with getting enough rest. Stay away from alcohol, pills etc. Focus on maintaining a sleep schedule. In other words go to sleep at the same time every night. If you are not sleeping keep notes about your activities. Change them if you feel that they are contributing to lack of sleep. Avoid watching TV shows that have a lot of violence or action prior to going to bed. Read relaxing stories and avoid playing video games etc. Each person must figure out what works for them and then stick to it. That’s our views on Teenagers Not Getting Enough Sleep. Historic Route 66

September 21st, 2013 ernie Posted in Arizona | No Comments »

Historic Route 66We have traveled across the USA many times by car and have seen signs for historic route 66 in many states. For those that may not be aware this route was the two-lane road that travelers took when they were traveling from Chicago across the prairies to the coast in California. Before there was a highway, there was a wagon trail that wound its way across the prairies and through the mountains.

Historic Route 66

Many small towns and villages grew up at strategic places along the trail. These were places to rest up, refuel horses and obtain some water. Later motels sprung up and restaurants for weary travelers to stop at to spend the night and have something to eat. For years these hotels and restaurants provided a great service and they prospered as well.

Frontier restaurant on route 66But then in the 30’s after the depression, the US began building the interstate system with 4 lane roads that negotiated the most direct route possible and bypassed many of these same towns and villages. Almost overnight new restaurants, hotels, and towns grew up along the interstate and suddenly many of the locations along route 66 went out of business because they simply could not survive when traffic no longer came their way. The picture on the left is one such location that still exists on old route 66 in Arizona not far from Kingman. You can still stay at the Frontier Motel and eat in the restaurant. The food is good and the people are friendly.

Oatman Arizona

oatman arizonaWe have driven parts of Route 66 and seen some of the historic buildings. We have driven through the mountains and seen some of the locations that existed. Any that can still make it as historic places to visit are still in business. Some sell trinkets to keep them going that become souvenirs for tourists who are trying to experience some of the nostalgia of the early 1900’s. Oatman is an old mining town in Arizona on route 66 that still exists because of the wild donkeys that roam the street. These donkeys are descendants from the donkeys that the minors used at the beginning of the century when they were looking for gold.

Traveling across the prairies on route 66 is an experience that everyone should have at least once. You begin to realize just how big this country is and how lonely you feel out on the prairie without another person or car in sight. Always ensure you have water and some food with you.

For a thousand miles there may be only a few small towns and villages and just about nothing else. This is what the pioneers had to face along with dust storms, rain storms and tornadoes. Many people really have no idea just how hard it was for them.

Maine Whitewater Rafting

September 21st, 2013 ernie Posted in Maine | No Comments »

Water Rafting in MaineMaine whitewater rafting is exhilarating and the scenery can be fantastic. The fall foliage is at it’s peak in the October time frame. However if you are interested in rafting on one of the Maine rivers when the leaves are at the peak colors you need to book early. The leaves change depending on the weather that we get in the months of September and October. You are really taking a chance on getting just the right time to see the leaves still on the trees at their peak color.

Maine Whitewater Rafting – River Categories

Pick your rafting trip based on skill level as well as entertainment value. Families with children or older adults who may not be able to swim to shore if they get dumped in the water may want to consider lower category rapids. You are responsible for your own safety although the guides will make sure everyone is wearing life jackets and will be responsible as you go through various rapids. However if you have a health concern, you may want to think about the category level of the rapids you will be navigating.

River Flows Vary with the Weather

The time of year and the amount of precipitation can change the category level overnight. For example with the spring runoff, the water is high, fast flowing and very cold. In the summer after a storm there may be a surge for a few days until the water has passed through the gorges and settled back to regular summer time flows. If you are concerned about the category level and your ability to handle the rapids with your guide and fellow rafters, check with the guide company prior to heading out on a white water rafting trip.

Over Night Rafting Trips

Some trips are overnight with all camping gear and meals included.  These are really great trips and many people enjoy them every year. There are a couple of concepts that all participants should keep in mind along with the guidelines that the rafting company will tell you. First of all bring a second set of dry clothes that are enclosed in a water proof bag. You are going to get wet and no one wants to sit around the camp fire in wet clothes.

Maine Whitewater Rafting – Safety While Rafting

Secondly always follow the instructions of your guide. He or she is there to keep you safe and have fun. Going swimming for example after having a few drinks at night around the camp fire can be deadly. Hypothermia can set in quickly and if no one is there to help you, it can be devastating. You probably want to bring your own sleeping bag as well just for personal hygiene.  Finally if you have special food requirements, you will either want to bring your own or see if the guide company can accommodate your requirements.

While in the raft, your guide is in command and has gone down this river many times. He knows what to do at various locations to position your raft properly to ensure safety while at the same time providing you with an experience that many will treasure for a life time. Follow their instructions and help your fellow rafters with any issues they have. After all if  one person has a bad time chances are that they will affect the rest of the group.

That’s about it for Maine whitewater rafting. If you have comments or suggestions for this site, let us know. We would be happy to include all positive and constructive comments and suggestions.

Asthma is Worse When Exposed to Smoke

September 21st, 2013 ernie Posted in Asthma | No Comments »

Asthma is Worse When Exposed to SmokeMy asthma is worse when exposed to smoke from fires, pollution, or any particulates the air. If you are an asthmatic of suffer from allergies, you probably are already aware of this fact. But what about the people who smoke or do not have allergies or any breathing problems. You cannot blame them, they are just not aware of the problem. They go about their own lives without giving it a seconds thought about the impact they have on other people. They do not even realize that their clothes smell. Their cars smell and certainly their homes also smell of stale smoke. Some people are really awful. Their clothes just reek of stale smoke and you cannot stand to be close to them.

Asthma is Worse When Exposed to Smoke – Hospital Nurses Who Smoke

About the worst situation I have ever encountered is being in a hospital because I am having an asthma attack and being looked after by a nurse who is a smoker. They are not allowed to smoke in the hospital, thank goodness, but they still go outside and grab a quick smoke on their breaks and at lunch hour. When they come back in everything about them smells of stale smoke. Their clothes smell terrible, their skin and their hair all have that stale smoke smell!

You do not need to get very close to someone to smell the stale smoke smell. Some people smell so bad that just being in the same room with them is enough to set asthmatics off with an attack. Anyone working in a hospital should not be allowed to smoke while on the job and should also be required to wash their clothes every day! This is really difficult for asthmatics, we are not just being picky or making this up.

Pollution from Forest Fires

This situation can be very bad for people with all kinds of allergies. About all I can say about this situation is either stay inside or get out of town and get away from the smoke and the pollution. Some people will also wear a mask over their nose and mouth. This will work to some extent and probably block 80% of the contaminants which is better than nothing. Just get out of town and stay away until it is over. When you do come back you may have a cleaning job to do to rid your home of the smell of smoke. Before you leave make sure that all windows and doors are closed up tight to avoid allowing the smoke to come inside and contaminate your home.

Smoking in Public Places

Many people smoke in public places, because this is quickly becoming the only place they can smoke. They must be outdoors or in designated smoking rooms. Asthmatics will avoid these locations and they are smart to do so. The smell from cigarette second hand smoke can literally take your breath away when asthmatics are exposed to smoke in this manner.

Cigar smoke is really bad. Can you believe that there are still some places that allow the smoking of cigars in doors! Most are relegated to outdoor areas or at least cigar lounges. We routinely walk past a bunch of guys who sit outside along the sidewalk and smoke cigars.  They sit about 10 feet back from the sidewalk and it is still very over powering when you walk past them and the breeze is blowing in our direction. Hard to believe but people still smoke these things and enjoy them.

Perhaps you are thinking that the writer is just a non smoker who is trying to make an issue out of this and give smokers a difficult time. This is not the case at all. If you suffer from asthma or know someone who does, then you already know that this is a real problem for these people and they just need to get away from these smokers.

How to Take a 4 Month Vacation

September 7th, 2013 ernie Posted in Trip Planning | No Comments »

How to Take a 4 Month VacationMost people who are going vacation and only have a couple of weeks to be away from work. They want to maximize time that they have while on vacation and as a result they’re paying great deal for hotels and airfare and meals. But there are other ways to go on vacation and have your cost kept to a minimum while still enjoying all of the things that there are to enjoy in other countries. If you are wondering how to take a 4 month vacation, read on. We have some great ideas for you to consider. Developing a plan to take a 4 month vacation is very important as well.

How to Take a 4 Month Vacation – Rent  vs. Hotels

The first step is to rent a condo, apartment, or house where you can make some or all of your own meals. This is a far less expensive way to go on vacation than if you are in a hotel and eating out for each meal. When we do this sort of thing, we might eat out a couple of times a week or take in a happy hour with the rest of our meals eaten in our rented condo. Another way to save some money is to take in happy hours and street kiosks. You may not always want to do this, but it is a nice variation.

One of the neat things about renting a condo for a fraction of the cost it would be to stay in a hotel or motel is that you can then afford to spend more time on your vacation. Personally I would rather take this time away then have a few expensive meals and stay in a hotel. We are able to travel much more when we conserve money in this manner and many of our friends wonder how we can afford to travel the way we do.

Camping and Hostels

Of course some people will never eat out and might even camp or stay in hostels, which is another approach to traveling cheaply. Of course you can travel for longer periods of time when you travel in this manner. For other folks a middle of the road approach allows them to enjoy some luxury and some roughing it as well.

Looking for deals and grabbing them when they become available is really being an opportunist and saving money. As long as the place you are staying in is clean and safe, every dollar you save is another dollar you can spend somewhere else on your travels. taking advantage of spontaneous trips and deals adds spice to your life vs. the rigid approach of being on a bus and in specific hotels every night.

The Skeptics are Stuck at Home

There will be many skeptics and mainly those that are stuck at home, afraid to travel or unwilling to stretch their money so they can get away and travel. They may not even be able to fathom how you can travel the way that you do, because unless you have been there and done it, they just refuse to accept it. Secretly they are envious and wish they were with you but just cannot bring themselves to follow in your foot steps. Try to take a 4 month vacation every year, watch your spending and enjoy life.

Take a 4 Month Vacation – Be Flexible

For example one friend of ours will only travel by car if he has reservations made for his entire trip. He needs to know exactly where he will be each night and how much he is paying along with what restaurants there are to choose from. We on the other hand, only decide where we are staying that evening when we pull into a motel or hotel. Sometimes we have been caught with a less than desirable location with few restaurants to choose from, but that just adds to the excitement of the journey.

We also do not take unnecessary chances or go to dangerous places. Sure we go to places that might be uncomfortable sometimes and only stay for one night. This happens by chance rather than by choice and we try to avoid them whenever possible. Common sense goes a long way: Don’t flaunt expensive electronics or jewelry; learn a few phrases of the local language; be polite and cautious with strangers; don’t wander the streets drunk late at night. Odds are you’ll be in no more danger than a similar situation in your hometown.

Work While You Travel

Some folks work while they travel and this also covers some of the cost of travel. If you can write a story about where you are and make some money from it, so much the better. If you can work on a contract while traveling with your computer and smart phone, why not. As long as it is only a few hours a day or week and does not interfere with your travel enjoyment, you have the best of both worlds.

You only live once so why not enjoy yourself and stretch your dollars as far as possible rather than spend a lot of money on expensive hotels and meals, which limits the amount of time you can be on the road.

All Inclusive Resorts in Puerto Vallarta

September 7th, 2013 ernie Posted in Travel | No Comments »

All Inclusive Resorts in Puerto VallartaWe cannot understand why anyone really would want to go to all inclusive resorts in Puerto Vallarta. It is not because they are not nice places to go. They are extremely great places to go. Especially if you want to go somewhere and be pampered, not worry about a thing and not even be concerned about where you are going to eat breakfast, lunch or dinner.

We have been to all inclusive resorts in Puerto Vallarta and they are very nice. The grounds were great, the food was excellent, the pool was heated and clean and it was an extremely enjoyable thing to do. But for us by the end of the week we were getting a little bored. We wanted to get out and explore, talk to some of the locals, go to one of the bars and try a more authentic restaurant. We also wanted to go exploring to other villages.

Resorts in Puerto Vallarta – Going Out

The trouble is in Mexico you must be very careful especially when traveling in certain areas. We stay in Puerto Vallarta and toured around to many of the small villages on Banderas bay. There are many quaint little towns that offer beautiful restaurants, beaches and parks to enjoy. Nothing better than have a few beers on the beach and then being served fresh Mexican food right on the beach under a palapa.

We took the buses mainly to get around. This gets us away from the all inclusive resorts in Puerto Vallarta to explore the area. We were able to visit the small towns, the shops in these towns and to sample some of the tequila that many places offer. Some stores offer their patrons a shot of tequila to sip while they are shopping for some of their products.

We once visited a jewelry store that served tequila in the back of the store to all of the patrons that visited their store and spent some time there. We think they just wanted to loosen us up so we would spend more money and it probably works. The tequila was ok, not really great or really bad. It was a nice touch to be provided something different.

Does Heavy Smoke Affect Asthma

September 7th, 2013 ernie Posted in Asthma | No Comments »

Does Heavy Smoke Affect AsthmaHeavy smoke from a wildfire or can cause a number of health problems. That’s because smoke contains harmful gases and fine particles that can irritate the lungs. When you breathe smoky air, you are inhaling carbon dioxide (CO2). Also  carbon monoxide (CO) plus gases like formaldehyde, depending on what is burning. If you have asthma, take precautions. Get away from these conditions or protect yourself by wearing a mask. Take your medication before a problem starts. Heavy smoke affects asthma patients almost immediately.

Does Heavy Smoke Affect Asthma

While exposure to smoke can affect everyone, certain groups are more sensitive. These include older adults, pregnant women, and anyone with heart or lung problems. Children are at increased risk because their airways are still developing and they breathe more air per pound of body weight than an adult. Children also are more likely to be playing outdoors where they are exposed to smoke and ash. Stay inside and make sure that your home is sealed and the air is filtered to protect yourself and your children from breathing this air.

If you are already asthmatic, then you know this, however many people who are on the verge of being asthmatic may not be aware and will suddenly have breathing problems so severe they think they are dieing.  Don’t take chances take the precautions we mentioned immediately and get away from the smoke into fresh air.

Second Hand Smoke?

Even second hand smoke is bad for people with asthma and bronchitis. Being around people who are smoking or being in an area where people are smoking such as bars and casinos is generally not so good for people with asthma. If you must be in these places, try to sit where there is lots of ventilation and lots of fresh air. this is by far the best way to deal with what is really a bad environment if you must be in these places.

Another trick is to sit up wind from people who are smoking or smell of smoke. Usually there is a bit if a draft or air circulation in a building or room. If you can figure out which direction the air is moving and which people are smoking or even smell of smoke, sit up wind from them so that the smell and smoke from cigarettes blows away from you. Ask them to hold the cigarette on the other side if you must sit beside them. Most people do not mind if you ask them politely to move the cigarette to the other side of their person if you explain that you have asthma. Not everyone does, but most people today are very conscious of this issue and will cooperate.

More Legislation

Many governments are passing more and more legislation that prohibits smoking in casinos, bars and restaurants or even public buildings. Smokers are feeling ostracized these days because frankly they are not welcome anywhere the public goes. You have to feel sorry for them. Not only are they making themselves sick, they are not wanted around by the majority of people who do not smoke and they do not want them anywhere around food or where you can be exposed to 2nd hand smoke.

It is still amazing to the writer why people smoke other than it is a habit that is very difficult to break. In the mean time if you are a non smoker and especially if you are prone to asthma, try to stay away from people who are smoking and avoid breathing their bad air.

Ottawa Rockclif Yacht Club

August 28th, 2013 ernie Posted in Ottawa | No Comments »

Ottawa Rockclif Yacht Club The Ottawa Rockclif Yacht Club is on the Ottawa river not far from the governor generals home. In fact you can find it by traveling along the parkway until you come to the lookout point where many people stop to look out over the Ottawa river. this location also allows you to see the Gatineau river where it empties into the Ottawa River. There are lots of boats also moored at this location as well. the picture above shows the boat house and the deck where patrons can enjoy a meal or a cold drink or both.

Ottawa Rockclif Yacht Club The deck that you sit on also floats on the water and you can feel the waves from the boats that travel up and down the river. You may occasionally have to wait for a seat, but it is definitely worth the wait. There is nothing better than sitting on the deck on a beautiful sunny day. Enjoy the sun, the view and the water. The only difficult part is the road that comes down from the cliff. It is narrow, very steep and has a 180 degree turn part way down the cliff. It also really only supports one vehicle going in one direction, so you need to be careful on this particular road.

Ottawa Rockcliff Yacht Club – Bike Trail

20130815-223435.jpgThe view from the deck of the Ottawa Rockclif Yacht Club is shown in this last picture. this is the Ottawa River as seen from the Rockclif boat house on the Ottawa river. A fantastic view for anyone who enjoys the water. It is sometimes hard to believe that you are actually in the center of the city of Ottawa.

There is a bike trail that runs along the river from one end of the city to the other. Many people who are out on a bike trip also stop here for a drink or a meal. It makes for a really fantastic day when you go for a bike ride along the river.

Hotel Rosita Puerto Vallarta

August 25th, 2013 ernie Posted in Puerto Vallarta | No Comments »

Hotel Rosita Puerto VallartaHotel Rosita, one of the first hotels in town, located right in the heart of Puerto Vallarta Mexico, on the beach & where the famous Malecon (boardwalk) begins.

Types of CPAP

August 21st, 2013 ernie Posted in CPAP Mask types | 1 Comment »

Types of CPAP Nasal Mask CPAPThe picture on the left shows the main types of CPAP masks that are available to patients who are suffering from sleep apnea. The type of mask you eventually choose will depend on a number of things including your own comfort as well as what the therapist feels will work for you the best. It must also fit your face well. They come in different sizes since we all have different sized faces and noses. The types of CPAP masks are designed to give you the most comfort and to do their job. Some people take a little while to get used to them, while others get a good nights sleep the first night. The first good sleep in a long time.

Types of CPAP Mask’s

Full CPAP Mask

Some clients want the full mask that covers the nose and the mouth that provides a tight fit and does not allow any air to escape. Straps go around the head below and above the ears to provide a tight secure fit. For some people this might be the most comfortable, while others may have to use this type of mask since they tend to breath through their mouth and the CPAP will not work properly unless both the nose and the mouth are properly covered.

Nose Pillow CPAP Mask

The least intrusive, at least in the writer’s opinion is the nose pillow. This is a relatively small mask. Which fits on the end of the nose with inserts that extend about a quarter-inch into the nose. It is held in place by one strap that runs above the ears and around the head. This particular mask only works well if the patient is not a mouth breather. The only complaint with this mask that we have heard of is that sometimes the strap will loosen allowing air to escape around the pillow mask.

The other types of masks vary in size and coverage. They really are dependent on what is comfortable for the person wearing it. Some people will try different masks before settling on one that works for them. The one mask that also covers the eyes as well as the mouth and nose would not work for the writer. I would not like the air blowing on my eyes. However this is a good mask for people who cannot keep their mouths closed at night and may breathe through their mouths.

CPAP Mask Maintenance

Keep your mask very clean. Wash it daily with mild soap regardless of the type of CPAP you have. Remove facial oils and other contaminants. It is a good idea to wash your face and clean any oil or makeup that might be on your face prior to using the mask. Although men appear to be the predominant users of the CPAP machine. Women are increasingly using these machines as well to help them deal with sleep apnea. Women wear much more make up than men. It is important for your CPAP mask cleanliness and longevity to keep it clean.

Washing the mask daily. Remove all oils and make up from your face before you go to bed will help to keep it cleaner and will also prolong the life of the mask. The technician told us that they should last 6 months or more. We have found that if you take care of them, keep them clean and look after them the CPAP mask and hoses will last much longer than 6 months. The mask itself does not cost a great deal. It is still money in your account that you do not need to spend. The CPAP machine is the most expensive component. It should last longer than five years, again assuming that it is well taken care of.

American River Rafting

August 21st, 2013 ernie Posted in California | No Comments »

American River RaftingThe three forks of the American River begin in the peaks of the Sierra Nevada range in Northern California. From there they meander through granite canyons into the rolling foothills of the gold country. The three forks range in difficulty from Class II (beginner) to Class IV+ (advanced).

The South Fork American is one of the most popular whitewater rafting rivers in the western United States. It jostles over friendly Class II-III rapids and meanders through the historic gold-mining town of Coloma. The Middle Fork American careens through a secluded canyon over numerous Class IV rapids, including infamous Tunnel Chute Rapid. The North Fork American relies on snow melt for its flows rather than upstream dam releases. Consequently, this American River rafting classic only runs in the spring.

South Fork American River Rafting

South Fork American River rafting is not recommended for inexperienced rafters, kayakers or inner-tubers (with the exception of the Coloma to Lotus section). The South Fork is Class III with some tricky and potentially dangerous rapids. The river gradient is a steep, exciting 30 feet per mile in the upper gorge from Chili Bar to Trouble Maker, easing to 9 feet per mile through the Coloma Valley. Another area becoming 33 feet per mile through the lower gorge.

The South Fork of the American is unusual in that most of the land along the river is privately owned. Homeowner’s, commercial rafting companies, private boaters, ranchers, anglers and picnickers all share this beautiful river. Above all follow proper etiquette while on the river.

Middle Fork of the American River

The Middle Fork of the American River runs through the scenic Sierra Foothills of Tahoe National Forest. The Oxbow to Greenwood run is class III-IV with one Class V (Tunnel Chute). Likewise with crews of people with at least Class III river experience who are ready for a strenuous and sometimes dangerous river adventure. As a result it is an order of magnitude more difficult than the South Fork of the American.

North Fork American River

The North Fork American is the most difficult of the three Forks. Towering Cliffs and 2000 foot canyon walls spotted with black oaks and varying pines sets the back drop. Hence this is one of the most beautiful California whitewater rafting river canyons. Located near Interstate 80, near the city of Auburn, the North Fork is easily accessible with some camping options nearby.

The Colfax-Iowa Hill Bridge to Ponderosa Way Bridge run is the most popular section to run. As a result it has been a favorite for California rafters and kayakers since the mid seventies. This 9.5 mile run contains many steep drops and boulder slaloms. Hence providing some of the best whitewater rafting of the 3 forks of the American river.

No Dams

The North Fork American, with no dams upstream, is truly a wild river. Most noteworthy it can be run by raft, canoe, or kayak in winter and spring only, when water exceeds about 900 cubic feet per second (cfs). At all levels, the river is Class IV with little rescue access. The North Fork American is a highly technical river. It should only be attempted by very experienced whitewater boaters who have seen its rapids before. A mile-by-mile guide cannot replace the judgment of each individual boater.

The North Fork is as dangerous a river to boat at low flows as at high flows. Several drownings and injuries have occurred at low flows due to underwater sieves. Above about 1500 cfs most dangerous rocks are covered and passages are wider, and maneuvering is much easier. But at flows in the 3,500 to 5,000 cfs range, hydraulic intensity increases markedly and eddies and rescue options decrease.

Best Pool in Palm Springs

August 21st, 2013 ernie Posted in Palm Springs | No Comments »

Best Pool in Palm Springs Almost every hotel and motel in the Palm Springs area has a pool. It is part of there entertainment package for guests that are staying there. But the very best pool in Palm Springs has to be at the Deauville. The Deauville is a condominium project located within two or three blocks from downtown Palm Springs. It is across from the Spa Casino.

The pool that is shown in this picture is actually at water park and is a lot of fun for many kids. For this reason many adults would prefer not to go to this particular pool. That’s why we think that the pool at the Deauville condominium project two blocks from downtown Palm Springs is actually the best pool in Palm Springs. It is a private pool. It is only used by people who are staying in the condominiums or who are owners of condominiums at the Deauville.

Best Pool in Palm Springs – Water Park

The pool at the water park is pretty good too and appeals to kids and teens who are looking for fun and excitement. Unfortunately it only opens in mid April. It stays open until late in the fall. But it is  one of the best water parks in the city.

At the Deauville you can choose from one of three pools. The largest pool is surrounded by palm trees and is kept at a standard 85° all year round. It comes with a hot tub and lounge chairs that you can relax on. There are two more pools on the property. They are smaller and they are heated as well beginning in March of each year. There’s also a hot tub. These pools are very quiet and an area where lots of people like to go to relax. At the larger pool there are obviously more people. It is  an opportunity to meet fellow snowbirds that are vacationing in the area.

Based on the properties that we’ve seen in the Palm Springs area and from comments in various people have made to us, this pool at the Deauville is one of the best if not the best pool in the entire city of Palm Springs. It is the largest pool, and it is also kept at it for a comfortable temperature all year round. The surroundings are tropical with palm trees. You can find shade as well as lots of sun. This is the best cool in Palm Springs.
