The Rideau Carleton Racetrack Casino in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada is one of the least competitive casinos that we know of when it comes to comps and promotions. It is run by the provincial government who is intent on taxing Canadians as much as possible and they do not allow any competition. As a result they do not offer many comp’s and if they do the comp’s are not very lucrative compared to other locations.

Lower Competition Leads to Low Promotions at Rideau Carleton Casino

It is the only casino in the city and as a result it is very crowded, but the comp’s are very limited, the cash back and free play are minimal compared to the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino for example in upper state New York. The other major factor that we noticed as well is that the people working at the Rideau Carleton Casino are decidedly not friendly compared to other casinos that we have been to. Even the servers are not friendly even when you tip them and the slot attendants who pay the jackpots have their hands out for tips. This is after making you wait for 10 or 15 minutes for them to acknowledge that you won a jack pot.  This is not one of our favorite places to go based on service and level of promotions and casino comp’s.

We just got one of the best Windsor Casino Hotel Deals ever. We belong to the Harrah’s Total Rewards slot card program which is good for over 30 properties across the US and Canada. The Caesars casino hotel in Windsor is part of this chain, so we decided to call them to see what kind of deal they could provide to us. We were traveling though Windsor and needed to stop for the night, so why not stop at a nice hotel, have dinner and play the slots a little bit before going to bed.

Well when we called and gave them our Total Rewards number, they quickly came back to us and gave us two nights free at their hotel! This was much to our surprise since we have never stayed at this particular property. although we have stayed at many other Harrah’s properties in the US. This is one of the benefits of belonging to a slot card program, particularly one that is good at over 30 properties across the US and Canada.

Windsor Casino Hotel Deals – Review

We reviewed the casino and hotel in a previous post, “Caesars Casino Windsor”, so we will not repeat all of what we covered in that post here, however we do want to mention one thing that is so far unique to Harrah’s casinos. On their slot machines, you can order all of your beverages right from the slot machine, including beer, wine, mixed drinks, juice, and coffee and have it delivered. You have to pay for any alcoholic drinks, however having this service makes it so convenient. Note that in the US most of the casinos offer free alcoholic drinks, but not in Canada.

If you are looking for a Windsor casino hotel deal, call your slot card host at the casino for reservations. If you do not have a slot host, just call the number located on the back of your Total Rewards card and select the correct property and make your reservation. Make sure you give them your Total Rewards number so they can look up your playing record and make a decision to comp you or not.

Get a Total Rewards Card

If you do not have a Total Rewards card and want a Windsor Casino hotel deal, you are going to have to make a reservation at what ever the going rate is, however there is still a chance you might get the room comp’d. before you start playing the slots or the tables, register for a Total Rewards card and then use it at all of the slots you play at. before you leave and before you check out, call your slot host and ask if they can do anything for you regarding your room or meals that you have charged to the room. Depending on your play they might comp you for your room charges. If not there is always next time and they will definitely want you back so watch your email to see what deals you may get.

Hotel Description

The hotel by the way was great. There are two towers and we recommend that you sty in the new tower. Ask for a view of the river and the Detroit sky line. Also use the valet parking. The parking garage is just too far away to drag your bags etc from the garage to the check in counter. You will have to navigate the casino floor. You will have to go down escalators just to get from the parking garage to the hotel check in counter.

In our minds this is the best way to get a great Windsor casino hotel deal. Why pay for a room and why pay for the Ontario 13% tax plus city tourist tax when you can stay for free. We probably saved over $200 for our two nights that we stayed at the Harrah’s Caesars Windsor casino hotel. We will definitely go back sometime this year for a another mini vacation in the Windsor area.

 This is the Windsor casino in Windsor, Ontario Canada, right on the border across from the city of Detroit. There is a lot of competition now between several casinos in Detroit and this one. Since it has been taken over by Harrah’s, the casino and the hotel have been spruced up, and the comps have improved. We tried staying at the hotel a few years ago before it became part of the chain and they wanted almost $200 a night for a room. Now that they are part of the Harrah’s chain and we have a Total Rewards slot card, we get the room for free!

The official name is Caesars Windsor, and overall, this is a lovely place to stay. The rooms in the new tower are fresh and clean with the latest in amenities. We had a great view of Detroit, the river and parts of Windsor.

The following are some of the details about the hotel and the casino in Windsor, Ontario.

Caesars Casino Windsor – Slot Machines

We did not find any information about the number of slots at this casino. However, there are slots of every kind on two floors available for your pleasure of all denominations. They have many of the traditional slots as well as the newer machines that include many of the penny machines that seem to be the trend these days.

Caesars Casino Windsor – Table Games

There are blackjack, craps, roulette, baccarat and pai gow poker games available at the Windsor casino. Again we could not determine how many tables there are. However, there seemed to be lots of tables available when we were there.

Caesars Casino Windsor – Restaurants

There are six areas where you can grab something to eat as part of the casino. These include the Artist Cafe, Legends Sports Bar, the Market Buffet, Neros Steakhouse, Pronto Cafe and the Taza Mediterranean Cafe. We ate in the Artists cafe and were not overwhelmed by the food or the service. Nothing wrong about it, but it did not impress us.

Caesars Casino Windsor – What We Liked

• Variety of slot machines on two floors
• You can drink while playing the slots or tables, but you must pay for the drinks
• Buffet
• Hotel rates are very reasonable, com’d if you are a Total Rewards member
• Covered garage parking
• Easy access from Detroit via the tunnel
• A safe environment in the casino, hotel and parking areas
• Great stopover point on your way to points west in the US or east in Canada

Caesars Casino Windsor – What We Did Not Like

There are no real complaints about the Caesars Windsor hotel & casino, other than the parking. If you do not want to use the valet parking service, you will have a rather long walk with your suit cases to the check-in counter.

It is a 4-star hotel in our estimation and quite adequate for our needs

Caesars Casino Windsor – Slot Player Card

They are part of the Total Rewards slot players card system. Slot members can take advantage of benefits at many Las Vegas hotels,  as well as sister hotels in Tunica, Biloxi, Laughlin, and Reno.

If you have not taken advantage of slot player cards, there are several benefits that many slot players should consider. Free or discounted rooms, the email mailing list of promotions, free or discounted meals, access to entertainment, and a tax report outlining your losses and wins for tax claim purposes. We are Harrah’s Total Rewards members, and although we have not been to this casino for many years, we were comped for the rooms while staying in the Windsor area.

Parking

There is ample parking at Caesars hotel & casino in a large parking garage beside the hotel with a walk way directly into the casino on the second floor. There is no surface parking that we observed. Once in the casino, you have a long walk to the check-in counter for the hotel. If you are just going to the casino, there is no problem. We suggest you use the valet parking service if you are staying at the hotel. It is a free service and much more convenient. Parking was also free.

Directions: You can follow the signs when you get to downtown Windsor, which is probably the easiest way. If you have a GPS, just do a search for casinos, and your GPS will point the way. Access is accessible from both the 401 in Canada, the international bridge or the tunnel from Detroit. The Casino is located on Riverside drive right along the river between Windsor and Detroit.

The Harrah’s Caesar casino hotel offers great casino Windsor hotel deals to their Total Rewards customers. We are Total Rewards slot car members and as we have indicated many times on this site, it is valuable to have these cards since the casinos offer great comps. We were on a driving trip when my wife suggested that we give them a call to see what rate the casino might offer us for a 2-night stay at their hotel. I did not expect a lot since we have not been to this particular casino in Windsor Ontario for some time.

Casino Windsor Hotel Deals

Much to our surprise they offered us two nights free in their new tower which is attached to the casino. Basically, there are two towers one on either side of the casino with a parking garage on the side away from the river. Confusing Parking

We liked just about everything about the casino and the hotel except for the parking. Parking is free in a parking garage, however, it is a long walk through the casino up and down escalators to get to the check-in counter at the hotel. I suggest that you use the valet parking and let them also look after your bags. With your total rewards cards, it is free anyway, although they do expect a tip of course.

Rooms are Great at this Casino Windsor Hotel

The deal was really great especially when you consider the room was free. We stayed in the new tower which was very clean and modern with a brand new flat-screen TV. We had a great view of the cities of both Windsor and Detroit across the river. Although you do not spend much time in your room it is very nice to have a  nice clean room with a separate glass shower as well as a soaker tub. Everything of course is nonsmoking.

We walked around the area a little bit during the daytime and had no problems whatsoever. Three blocks away there are several coffee shops, where you can get a decent coffee etc and four blocks away is effectively downtown Windsor. The area is pretty safe however it is like any downtown area, there are people around that you may want to be careful about. We would not suggest that you go walking around at night in the downtown area or down by the water.

There are many hotels in Windsor, especially along the main road from the bridge, however, why would you stay over 2 miles away when you can get such a great casino Windsor hotel deal right at the casino? Not only do you have the distance to travel to get to the casino, but you would also have to pay for your room, which they are often comped for you when you stay at the casino hotel as part of your Total Rewards package.

Get a Slot Card

We will emphasize this again as we have many times. Always get a slot card and always use your card when you are playing the slots. When you receive two nights free and maybe some food or free play with the package, it is similar to winning a small jackpot! A room that costs maybe $90 plus tax per night, plus a meal and pretty soon it would add up to $250 for two nights. Why not stay free when you can you might just get lucky and win a jackpot besides!

That’s why we use slot cards and that is why we get free rooms when we have never even visited this particular casino hotel. You cannot get a better deal than free for a casino Windsor hotel deal! Harrah’s has hotels and casinos in all of the major gambling areas in the US. Chances are that you will be able to stay for free if you gamble in one of their casinos. I look at it from the perspective that I generally have to pay for a hotel room anyway, so the money I save using my total rewards card is available for gambling and I may also win a jackpot which has happened many times. There are no hotels near the Windsor Casino. They are all several miles away on the road that heads to the international bridge and the United States. The picture on the left is of the Detroit skyline taken from the steps of the entrance to the Windsor casino. It is called Caesars Windsor. This is a two-level casino with two towers, one on either side of the casino. There is also a parking garage located behind the hotel. Unfortunately, although the garage is close to the casino, it is a long walk to the check-in counter for the hotel which is in the new tower.

We have stayed in the new tower and strongly recommend this hotel. It is modern, very clean and well-appointed with everything that you can possibly need. We were very satisfied with the new tower. Although we did not stay in the older tower, it is likely of the same caliber, just perhaps a little more tired due to it being several years older.

Hotels Near Windsor Casino

We mentioned that there are no other hotels close to the Windsor casino. There are several chain motels and small hotels in Windsor, however, they are located along the main road from the international bridge which is where most traffic enters or exits the US. you can easily drive to the casino, but why bother when you can stay right there? If you come across from Detroit via the tunnel the Windsor Casino is only a few blocks from the tunnel exit. The international bridge is several miles from the hotel.

Also, you may even be able to stay for free if you have a Total Rewards card with the Harrahs chain. The Caesars hotel and casino is part of the Harrah’s chain and you can use this card to make your reservations using your slot card.

Casinos in the US

There are casinos in the US, however, there are several great advantages to staying at the hotel-casino in Windsor. There is a lot of concern about safety in Detroit. Windsor has its share of people who hang around the downtown area, however, during the day we experienced no problems and did not feel unsafe at all.

When you stay at the casino hotel, you have another advantage that other hotels near the Windsor Casino cannot offer. That is the view from a high floor in one of the towers. You can look to the North West and see a view similar to the one shown in the picture above or look to the Northeast and see a view of the river and the urban areas of Detroit and Windsor. And yes, Detroit is north of Windsor. if you do not believe me, just look at a map!

Many governments all over the United States and Canada have started up casinos as a means to raise much needed tax revenue. Also to provide jobs in areas that could use a boost.  Casinos In Ontario are run by the OLG, which is an arm of the provincial government.

We have traveled a great deal across the US and also across Canada and without a doubt we find that the casinos in Ontario provide the worst service, the worst food and although we do not have a scientific study to back us up, we also feel the they have the worst odd’s. The OLG casinos are busy with lots of people going to visit them on the weekends and even through the night when they stay open 24 hours. The reason they are so busy is that they really have no competition. People all over love to gamble, and if you are the only game in town, well that is where they will go.

Casinos In Ontario

Why do I feel that Ontario casinos are the worst in the industry? There are many reasons:

• Variety of Machines – Generally small casinos, no room for more
• Cost of Drinks – full price drinks compared to inexpensive or even free
• Pay Out from the Machines – walking around the casino you quickly see there are not many winners
• Quality of food in the Casino – sandwiches wrapped in saran wrap, limited variety, not even a deli
• Quality of food in the Restaurants – very large quantities of poor quality food seems to satisfy many people
• Intimidation at the entrance – have to pass by uniformed guards at the entrance. All casinos have guards, but most are dressed in civilian clothes. They do not make you feel welcome.
• Location – never in a central area, you generally have to take a long drive to get to the casino
• Employee Attitude – They do not know the meaning of customer service and have their hands out for a tip when you win a jackpot!
• Places to Sit – there is no were to sit and relax away from the tables or slots, not customer friendly
• Entertainment – limited to touring old timer bands that sign off key and play too loudly to mask their mistakes.
• Comp’s – it is almost a joke when we talk comp’s. A few dollars is not going to entice us to keep coming back.

Compare to Other Locations

Admittedly I am comparing the casinos in Ontario with those in Vegas, however even if you go over to the province of Quebec, you quickly see that the Quebec casinos are high class entertainment venues compared to any thing the Ontario government can offer.

We just do not have anything good to say about these casinos. The first marketing mistake they made was to locate the casino with racetracks around the province. The tracks were loosing money and going out of business. Adding a casino made them profitable again although racetracks are no were close to tourist areas or to downtown.

I would rather go to Akwesasne Mohawk Casino than go to the race track in Ottawa, even though it is an hours drive, you have to cross the border and pay tolls.

A beer costs $1 dollar, an excellent buffet is only $10, it is a much larger casino with a comparably larger number of slot machines as well as table games as well. They also offer better comp’s to entice you to come to their casino and the staff are very friendly and treat patrons as customers! What a concept!

If you do not believe what we are saying here, try going to a few of the casinos outside the province and you will quickly see how great they are compared to the OLG casinos.

Note: We have not visited the Casino Niagara in some time. As a result your comments are welcome to help us update this review. Of course it will help our readers decide if this casino is a place they want to visit. Canadian casinos as a rule do not provide the same level of comp’s that their American counterparts do. Hence this is one of the reasons that we do not frequent this location as much as some others.

The FallsView casino located in Niagara Falls , Ontario Canada is right in the middle of the historic area of Niagara Falls, within walking distance to the falls itself and all of the surrounding historical areas, shops and restaurants.

The FallsView  casino is on par with many of the Las Vegas hotels and Casinos. From a grand entrance to the hotel with shops and restaurants to the casino itself , this is one of the few first class hotels and casino in Canada. Well worth the money to visit this casino and hotel.  American visitors may find some things a bit pricey compared to American casinos. Rooms are expensive, especially if you are looking for something with a view of the falls. Drinks in the casino are pricey as well compared to US standards.

Niagara FallsView Casino

There are actually two casinos in the area. The Fallsview Casino is the most recent addition to Niagara Falls, while the older one located within Niagara Falls and also located within the city near the falls as well is still operational. We have not visited this casino in some time. Next time we go to Niagara falls we will visit it and prepare a review.

There are two areas that we do not like about the FallsView Casino. Compared to many US casinos , drinks at the casino are very expensive. They are in the $8 to $9 range for the least expensive drinks, compared to $4 and $5 when you do have to pay for then in the United States. Most casinos offer mixed drinks for free as long as you are playing at the tables or the slots. Not in Canada.

The other item we do not like about Canadian Casinos and FallsView Casino is no different, is the guards at the entrance to the casino. We agree that minors need to be restricted from entering the casino, however like the US you can do it in a much less imposing manner. We are customers and should be treated as good customers.

Other than that we have heard very good reports about the hotel. Spectacular views of the falls , both the Canadian and the American sides. Friends have stayed at this hotel and rate it very highly. We have yet to stay at this hotel. We would be glad to hear about your stay. Feel free to leave comments about the FallsView Casino , positive or negative.

Slot Machines

There are over 3000 slots and video poker machines in denominations ranging from one cent to $5.  All of your favorite games are spread throughout the spacious and luxurious casino.

Table Games

There are all of the standard table games to play while you are at the Niagara FallsView casino including Baccarat, blackjack, craps, roulette and poker. The casino also runs poker tournaments from time to time as well.

Restaurants

There are several restaurants at the hotel including fine dining, casual and other on-site dining. Enjoy fine dining at 17 Noir and Ponte Vecchio.  For casual dining you can also enjoy the Grand Buffet, Falls Deli, Golden Lotus, Sushi & Oyster Bar, and the Noodle Bar. If you are looking for a quick bite somewhere there are many fast food outlets available. These include – Auntie Annies, Canyon Creek, Falls & Firken, The Famous, Johnny Rockets, Mama Mia’s, Quizno’s, Joes, Starbucks, Subway, Sweet Point, and Tim Hortons.

With so many restaurants in the hotel , you will not go hungry. Of course if you are looking for something different, there are numerous restaurants to choose from in downtown Las Vegas.

What We Liked

• Safe environment in the casino, hotel and parking areas

What We Did Not Like

There are some complaints about the FallsView hotel & casino

• Expensive drinks while gambling
• Hotel is expensive compared to other hotels in the area
• Guards at the entrance to the casino are imposing unnecessarily. American casinos do a much better job of restricting minors and undesirables from the casinos in a less imposing manner.
• It is a 4 star hotel in our estimation and quite adequate for our needs

Niagara FallsView Casino Slot Player Card

They are part of the Fallsview  slot players card system. Slot members can take advantage of benefits at the FallsView casino. Although not as lucrative as many American slot cards, patrons can still be comp’d for free rooms and meals depending on the amount of play.

If you have not taken advantage of slot player cards, there are a number of benefits that many slot players should consider. Free or discounted rooms, email mailing list of promotions, free or discounted meals, access to entertainment, and a tax report outlining your losses and wins for tax claim purposes.

Parking

There is ample parking at the FallsView hotel & casino in a large parking garage beside the hotel. There is no surface parking that we observed, although if you can find it, you can park along the street. You can access the hotel from the garage via an elevator from all levels. The parking garage is also patrolled on a regular basis and it also protects your car from the weather. Patrons of the garage who are visiting the casino and intend on playing the slots should always have a FallsView casino slot card. If you park and play , show your card at the exit to the garage and you should receive your parking for free.

Niagara FallsView Casino Directions:

The address is 6380 Fallsview Blvd., Niagara Falls, ON, L2G 7X5, Canada and you can reach the hotel by car , by bus, by air, by limo and by junket for the high rollers.

The Thousand Islands Casino is located midway between Toronto and Montreal along the 401 near Kingston and the 1000 Island crossing to the US. This is a beautiful little casino with only about 500 slot machines and a small number of table games to enjoy. Last time we checked there were 18 tables available for players enjoyment. We have visited this casino several times and have enjoyed ourselves very much. they have a nice bar to relax in and a restaurant that severs good quality food for reasonable prices. Both times we have used our free comp’s and eaten for free. We had to pay for our drinks which is the case in every Canadian casino.

Thousand Islands Casino

Parking is surface based and free to patrons. There is ample room for campers and RV’s to park while they enjoy the 1000 Islands Gananoque casino.  Coffee and soft drinks are complimentary, coat checks are also complimentary . The 1000 Islands Gananoque casino has ATM machines on site, there is also currency exchange offered for US visitors and there is a small gift shop which also sells lottery tickets.

The town of Gananoque is quite close and there are a number of small chain motels as you enter Gananoque near the casino. They do offer special deals , however the writer has not verified these offers to confirm how good they are. We do know that they are not associated with the winner circle slot cards and as a result there are no free rooms offered. If you book early there is a good chance of receiving a discount especially if you are a senior or you have a CAA or AAA card.

There are also camping sites nearby and there is the famous 1000 islands tour that many people also enjoy.

Restaurants

The Gateway Restaurant is the only restaurant at the 1000 Islands Gananoque casino. There is a bar as well and both are clean and bright, with decent food on the menu. One thing we noticed is that the bar always serves ice cold beer. If you are just stopping by, use your winners circle card to be comp’d for a free meal.

What We Did Not Like

• There are no real complaints about the 1000 Islands Gananoque casino.
  
• It is a small casino, but very nice and clean with a great restaurant.

They are part of the OLG slot players card system. However there is a restaurant and patrons can help themselves to free coffee and soft drinks. There is also a bar service.

There is ample parking at the 1000 Islands Gananoque casino in a large parking area beside the casino. There is ample parking for cars as well as buses and RV’s. This is an easy place to stop for anyone on their way between Toronto and Montreal.
