Try A Creative Home Security System By William Hynes Some people find they don’t need a home security system. They have better ways to deal with would-be criminals. Here are some of the more creative ways that citizens have used to drive away intruders.
Great Scot!
Returning from a New Year’s Eve party, a thirty-nine year old man in Edinburgh, Scotland reportedly ran off an intruder he found in his home. The homeowner, Torvald Alexander, was dressed as Thor, the Norse god of thunder and a popular Marvel Comics character. Alexander had fashioned his costume, including a helmet with Viking horns, using large amounts of aluminum foil and completed the look with a red cape. When he noticed the burglar, Alexander began screaming and running towards the man. The burglar made a hasty retreat out the same window he had broken to enter the home.
A Different Kind of Squirt Gun
Scott Wagar of Willmar, MN was tired of teenagers egging and toilet-papering his house every year after a local high school’s homecoming football game. His property had been the target of this caper for eight years. Wagar decided that enough was enough and set out to protect his home. Wearing night vision goggles, he sat outside and waited for the teens. When he saw them approaching his house,
he yelled at them to leave. When the teenagers kept advancing, Wagar pulled out his squirt gun filled with fox urine and water and began spraying the troublemakers. The horrible smell of the fox urine was enough to make the teens forget about the annual prank.
A Candy Cane Saves the Day
During a Thanksgiving get together in Sacramento, CA, an intoxicated neighbor made his way into the host’s yard. The intruder carried a kitchen knife and proceeded to wave the knife at the guests, cutting some of their clothes in the process. A quick-thinking guest grabbed a two-foot candy cane lawn ornament and used it to stop the neighbor from continuing his drunken attacks until the police arrived. The only downside of this plan is that this Home Security system is only handy from November to January.
Amen!
This incident happened outside of a Greensboro, NC library, but the victim’s
tactic could be used anywhere. Kathy Headen was dropping some books off at a
city library when a gunman appeared and told her he wanted her purse and cell
phone. Headen began praying for the robber in a loud voice. The man asked her
to stop talking so loudly, but Headen continued without lowering her voice. The
gunman gave up and ran from the scene.
