Home Security Deadbolts Go High-tech
By Alek Peterson
After a recent car accident and a home key accidentally being left with the tow truck driver we went out on a search for a home security rekey solution to avoid going through a locksmith. This search began with the idea that less people touching the lock meant more security for us. During my search I stumbled upon the Kwikset SmartScan deadbolt. Being a techie I have to say that I am easy swayed by the latest and greatest of gadgets but this deadbolt has a wow factor that top the charts.

Continuing advances in technology have brought about some biometric features that are exciting from a technological standpoint and scary from a religious standpoint. As a security feature in the home biometrics is an awesome way to restrict access. Kwikset thought of everything when they designed the SmartScan.

When looking for a new deadbolt solution I wanted to find something that looked good and fit the bill for our security. The SmartScan is available in both Venetian Bronze and Satin Nickel which make it a complimentary color finish for most doors. The style of the handle is classic and the biometric scan has been integrated into the bottom of the deadbolt making it easy to use and it does not take away from the beautification of your door.

This deadbolt can be opened with either keyless entry or keyed. Kwikset

included their SmartKey Re-key technology in the door to allow you to easily re-key the lock. It has an ANSI Grade-1 deadbolt rating and can be re-keyed using the original key which makes it an incredible choice for home security.

To keep your home protected the SmartScan deadbolt has three access levels allowing you to easily secure your home. For those that live in the home the deadbolt is set for continuous access. Contractors can be setup with day(s) of the week that they can access the home using temporary access. Homeowners can secure their home from periodic workers such as housekeepers and baby-sitters using the restricted access option. SmartScan even allows you to set specific time and day of the week for restricted access users. Kwikset has given homeowners the ability to program up to 50 users into the system giving you total and complete control over your front door home security.

This system is easy to install with #2 Phillips screwdriver and contains easy to program instructions to have your deadbolt setup quickly. Kwikset’s SmartScan deadbolt makes an excellent addition to your existing home security system.

A secure deadbolt should never be your only source of home security. For the best protection against intruders it is best to have a system installed with monitoring services.
